I'm having a bit of a debate with my local bar. Twice I've ordered a Dirty Gibson (from two different bartenders) and both bartenders used the olive juice for the "dirty". I've never experienced this before and now I'm wondering if I'm ordering my drink incorrectly. Their argument is that "dirty" always means olive juice, and my point is, "Do you see an olive in that drink, no, then put the onion juice/brine/vinegar in there." and they continue to debate their point. Please let me know what you consider to be a Dirty Gibson.
